New Balance Japan

Although revered industry wide for producing functionally-sound sportswear staples, over the past few years New Balance has solidified its place amongst other streetwear heavyweights; several of whom unveiled joint capsules with the brand earlier this year. As far as sneakers go, the label has secured collaborative projects with several of the game’s most prophetic design talent, including works with JJJJound, Salehe Bembury and Aimé Leon Dore. With that in mind, the brand’s Japanese division is slowly carving out a niche outside of footwear, doing well to craft traditional activewear items inflected with sartorial flare.

Brand new for the current Fall/Winter 2020 season is New Balance’s “NB DOWN” collection. Comprised of eight signature silhouette styles spread out over 17 different coat iterations, the thematic offering resides within the brand’s functional ALL TERRAIN line. Made up of an array of earthy tonal hues, like grey and brown with heavy hits of black seemingly weaving in and out, each piece hosts a set of protective properties. An external GORE-TEX shell is used to safeguard wearers from gusty winds, which when juxtaposed against the cushiony down filling housed within, succeeds in offering optimal protection from all sorts of sketchy weather conditions. Standout pieces from the range include innovative iterations of the Long Duck Down Jacket, Long Goose Down Jacket, and Active Mid Goose Down Jacket.

The new “NB DOWN” collection from New Balance Japan is scheduled for an online release come November 20. In case you missed it earlier, adidas and photographer Brock Fetch unveiled their collaborative MYSHELTER COLD.RDY parka.
